Fine reference work on this topic

Scholarly histórica account of Erasmus' life, work and theology as it impacted all successive Greek and English translations of the Scriptures. One has to trust Romans 8:28 implicitly reading of how historic translators challenged or yielded their biases and presuppositions for us to have confidence in the translations we hold in our hands today. Thankfully there are multiplied thousands of manuscripts, lectionaries, commentaries that act as check and balance to satisfy the most ardent critic.

Good, Short Read on Erasmus And The TR

King James only advocates like to point to Erasmus as a man of God, a top scholar (which he was), and a man who protected the Word of God through his Greek text. The truth, however, is different. KJV onlyism trades certainty for truth.
In this short work (I read it in less than an hour), the author reveals who was Erasmus and his Greek New Testament? Without a doubt Erasmus was a scholar. Prior to his Greek text, the Church had been using the Latin Vulgate as its text. While the Vulgate was good, it was not perfect. Erasmus translated the Greek and Latin at the same time. The problems with Erasmus' Greek text was he lacked many Greek texts. While Erasmus must be praised for his work, it was far from perfect.
The basis for the TR or received text was Erasmus work. This laid the foundation for the KJV. Most modern Bibles (except the NKJV) don't use the TR. They use the NA text or the UBS but not the TR. There are good reasons for this.
Overall I learned much about Erasmus. Having read James White's excellent and highly recommend book The King James Only Controversy, I knew some about Erasmus but this book provides a little more detail in a quick read.

We must understand history.

I will never go to college. I am to old and not inclined and I have work to do for my Lord Jesus Christ. Going to college would take time, time I do not have to give. Therefore reading works such as this gets me educated without the loss of time. I appreciate such works.
