A captivating study of guilt, obsession, and secrets

Have you ever thought about the secrets your husband or wife might be hiding? Sure, you know your spouse intimately, but do you know everything about their past? When Jack Logan's pregnant wife Susan dies in a car crash, he's wracked with guilt and despair. He can't return to his investment firm and his obsessive compulsive habits threaten to spiral out of control. One day he receives a post card with the picture of a missing teenage girl named Alison and everything changes.

The girl looks like a younger version of his beloved Susan. Their new baby was going to be named Alyson, and the coincidence is unnerving. Jack's OCD kicks in and he's compelled to find the girl. The search reveals facts he never knew about Susan, and he wonders if he really knew his wife. Why did Susan keep so many secrets? Who is the missing girl, and what will happen when he finds her?

Rich Silvers researched his subject and presented a convincing portrait of a man suffering with obsessive compulsive disorder. As a reader I felt the pain of the man, understood his guilt, and empathized with the ordeal he was suffering. The twists and turns of the plot are so well executed that the surprise ending is a shocker. I was so unprepared for the final chapter that I backtracked to make sure I hadn't missed something. Good job Rich! You made me rethink the whole story and wonder what happens next.

Horrid ending!!!!!

I started reading this book and could not put it down. I couldn't decide if I liked it or not but was compelled to keep reading. None of the characters were particularly likeable, but I wanted to find out what happened. Then I came to the end. Did you hear me screaming? What a horrid letdown! Have you ever read a really good book then come to the end the the author writes, "And it was all a dream!!!" Well, that's about what you have here! Disgraceful. I'd never read another book by this author. Well, of course, you get what you pay for and this was FREE. Now I know why.

Strange story, not my cup of tea

This is a short read about a man with obsessive compulsive disorder whose pregnant wife dies in a car crash. His wife had her own problems, including always wearing white, most of their house was decorated with white furniture, etc. and she had a fear of driving into the city. He had promised to take her to her OB appointment but failed to leave work in time to get there and she took off in her own car. The story takes off on strange avenues after that and I lost interest because this man was not someone I liked and thus I did not really care what happened to him. I also did not really care about most of the other characters, the story was filled with people with strange problems. I skipped pages to the end, getting the story without having to read it word for word. The ending is a surprise but I did not like it and think the entire story was very strange. I sincerely hope this is one of the books I got free rather than having spent even as little as 99 cents on it, and I certainly have no interest in reading more by this author. However, am sure others will like the book if it is the type of story that interests them.

And there's no way they could catch a nimble faeire! But magic has fled the land after the recent phoenix rebirth, and the shapeshifters find they can no longer transform...

The first three books of the series formed a trilogy, a three-part story that wrapped up at the end of Mountain of Whispers. Then Lake of Spirits started a new chain of events for the shapeshifters and left some of the children in a terrible situation. ROADS OF MADNESS continues the story...

Enjoyable adventure.

I came upon The Island of Fog series while looking for books for my child. Taken by the unique story-line, I gave the first novel a read and couldn't put it down! I've since read the other 4 books and really enjoyed them. Roads of Madness is a great romp through post Armageddon America. It's like a cross between the classic movie 'Stand By Me' and the AMC series 'The Walking Dead' (age appropriate, of course) with a little fantasy thrown in. The writing style is clear and concise and dare I say it, uses good English. It is easy to follow and because of that, you (and younger readers) get carried along for the ride without getting confused, even though there's lots of action going on. Remember when you were a kid, the idea of being the only people left on the planet was akin to imagining being invisible or having x-ray vision. Pure fantasy. Now throw in very believable "super powers" -believable in an almost...hmmm, that's plausible kind of way, and you have a story that appeals to both sc-fi and fantasy fans. The scenarios and environment are very well executed -you are there. It's one of those books that transports you. The characters are well developed and their friendships grow through the series which is set over a short space of time. One niggle is that I wanted to get to know the characters a little more and wished for even more descriptive embellishment. Then again, that's the grown-up in me and it *is* aimed at younger folk. I found very little I didn't like about the story... I'm trying to think of something as I write...nope! Each book stands on it's own but best as a series.

An amazing book and series for ALL ages

I am a 53 yo grandmother who loves to read, with a 9 yo granddaughter with the same passion. I was looking for a book that I thought she might enjoy when I found the very first book in this series, "Island of Fog". We have both enjoyed them completely!! From the moment I picked that first book up, until setting this 5th book down, I have been a HUGE fan of Keith Robinson and the "Island of Fog" series. I am not one of those reviewers that talk all about the quality of the characters and their development, as I just don't know how to put all that stuff down in writing. I will leave that to those that seem to have the flair for it. I agree with all of them completely though, as I find myself laying awake at night feeling sorry for the characters and hoping they can find their way out of the latest predicament fairly unscathed. You will NOT go wrong reading these books.

I only gave this book a 5 star rating because there wasn't a 6th star offered. I would not be at all surprised if a movie, or even a series of movies came out of these books.

Roads to Greatness!

ROADS OF MADNESS takes Hal and his fellow hybrid friends and plops them into the middle of a world in ruins. With their magic ripped from them by the rebirth of a phoenix, they face savagery and the unknown without their ability to transform into magical creatures. They brave the scrags and a lethal group of survivors known as The Swarm. I loved how well the author peered into Hal's thoughts. The teens are intelligently written and are tasked with finding their way out of harrowing events. They react like real people with a mix of thoughtful and foolish responses. I love how Robinson develops the characters with each new book. I can't wait to see what Hal and his magical band come across next.

This book is fast-paced and will appeal to fans of series like THE MAZE RUNNER and ROT AND RUIN. Robinson smoothly blends fantasy creatures with zombielike mayhem to great effect. This is a great book to snatch up if you've never tried the series. It will have you hunting down the previous four volumes thanks to the wonderful tidbits Keith sprinkles throughout the book about the cast and their past. If you haven't tried this excellent series, you're missing out on a writer firing on all cylinders.
